Happy Earth Day lovelies!
I was trying to think of an Earth Day related post and decided, why not carry on with last year’s post? After all, there are so many little (and big) ways to go green at home effortlessly and in an attractive way…
switch out your cleaning products
There are a lot of choices out there in terms of ‘green’ cleaning products- and the stores don’t even make you wander around looking for them. They are all sitting right there next to the oldies we are all used to using. Of course, if you are feeling some extra motivation, you can also look into making your own …more vinegar anyone?

go second-hand with furniture and home accessories
Oh sure, going vintage is all the rage these days. But it is also a good way to reduce your post consumerism level. And there are hidden gems everywhere. Just have a look at Nina’s (living in No. 40 blog) curbside find below. OK, it wasn’t in this state of bliss when she found it. But with some tlc…and who can beat a price tag of $0? Or consider the $500 lamp I picked up for $15 at an estate sale a few months back.
pick eco-friendly wall treatments
There are more and more options these days for sustainable walls. In the wallpaper department there are choices that are quite responsible. Like the Louise Body paper below which is sourced from managed forests (where new planting exceeds cut growth) and use water based inks. While in the paint department, there are paints with low to no voc.

So, let’s show our planet some love. Today, and every day!

Such beautiful examples! I try to at least use cleaning products that are eco-friendly and I love to find used furniture and other stuff from thrift stores or from the dumsters 🙂
Those paints are something I need to look into.

I love all of these ideas. What a fitting post for earth day! I love using as many natural and recyclable or recycled products as I can. Refilling your soap bottles and cleaning products instead of throwing them away when they’re empty is a good thing, too! And Mrs. Meyers is too pretty to throw away anyway 🙂

i am happy to say i do all of these! well, with exception of the wallpaper. i am off to pick out and buy my low voc paint today. yesterday i just bought new bottle of mrs. meyers in basil scent (that one is so hard to find around here!).

I’ve been trying to change over to more natural cleaning products lately – Mrs. Meyers is the best!

I love all these and have incorporated all three whenever possible! I am a big believer in used furniture – new is sooo expensive!! Pursuant to your comment on my blog, I will have to visit the Habitat stores and I would love to meet up when I’m in NJ!! 😉

Looking forward to it Sarah!

I am more than a bit of a hippie when it comes to doing these things. My favorite way to unclog drains is with baking soda and vinegar, the crazy way it foams makes me so happy {I also fill the whole drain pipe up with baking soda which is probably going a bit overboard}.
I don’t know why people deal with paint fumes when you don’t have to. The no VOC paint is so great!

Great tips, Santa. I especially love the way you and Nina recycle by taking vintage furniture pieces and giving them new life. Someone recently recommended a hardwood floor cleaner, Bona, that I just love. I works really well, and is nontoxic and biodegradable. Happy Earth day!

Will have to look into that- thanks for the reco Theresa!

Awesome tips Santa! Lately, I have been more concious of the cleaning products I pour down the sink (because yes, I do drink the London tap water) so I have been wanting to do my part by switching out my cleaning products. It’s a bonus that they smell nicer too!

Happy earth day (every day) to you too! What a GREAT estate find (lamp!). I’m excited about the warm weather .. the warmer it is … the more tag/estate sells I venture too 🙂

I am such a sucker for Mrs. Meyer’s anything, especially that lavender scent. I have two of the hand soaps in my home now and my mom uses Mrs. Meyer’s dryer sheets as well

Great advice. Upcycling is my fav – older pieces are often made so well and just need a bit of TLC to give it a fresh spin. x
