Although I am very excited about the chair I scored at the estate sale, what I really hoped I would be to get for my my second upholstery project was a large square ottoman. The plan was to shop for it at estate and garage sales during the Summer and be ready to go with fabrics and everything by Fall. Didn’t quite work out though, since I just hit up the first estate sale after the last week of Summer.
Still, it is definitely on the list. The Mr has taken to using our coffee table as a sort of ottoman and, in his defense, I know it’s because our sofa isn’t the deepest. Since it is rarely used as an actual table and since we could certainly use the occasional extra seating, an upholstered coffee table seems like the obvious way to go. I have been collecting inspiration for this in an ideabook via houzz and now I am wondering if I should still go square (more room to stretch those legs!) or with a bench (for the sake of space)…

A giant ottoman is such a function piece. It can serve as a foot-rest, additional seating, and even a serving table for guests (assuming you don’t have a dog who will eat everything within reach, haha). Would you tuft it with buttons? I’ve always been curious how that works. Good luck in your search!

Oh I will definitely be shooting for some tufting.

I love Ottomans, they’re just so decadent and versatile (although my man would be completely confused by one I think!).

I love an ottoman but as a coffee table? I’d be afraid of spilling or ruining it. Plus I wouldn’t want people to put their feet on something I’d potentially use as a coffee table…as in putting food on where feet have been…ok only weirdo me thinks of something like that lol

This has been on my very (optimistic) DIY list for ages – even though I haven’t sewed anything for years. I would love a little lesson (especially in tufting) if you manage to find something to use?

Upholstered coffee tables look so elegant,
I love them especially the tufted ones.
Lovely inspirations you have there.

You are reading my mind! I have had an idea to upholster a giant foot rest with an old sail. It hasn’t worked out yet since I don’t have a giant foot rest and we have no room for one plus I don’t even have an old sail 🙂 Maybe one day..

I have a fully upholstered ottoman of about the same proportions as the one with the wooden legs and shelf {but probably smaller} and I love it! It has wheels so it can be moved around which I love as well.
You could probably make one with your new sewing skills, there are a bunch of DIY tutorials out there and you are really good at DIYs. If you make it right though, it shouldn’t involve THAT MUCH sewing either. 🙂

I did see one online involving a coffee table. I just wondered how sturdy it would be for seating. I can just picture myself sitting on coffee tables to test them out.

Such a nice look and so comfortable too!
I think you have to go to more estate sales with me and I am sure you’ll stumble across a nice looking ottoman.
Happy weekend!

That’s the plan Nina!

Ottomans are such versatile pieces of furniture… Footstool, extra seating, coffee table. Love the first one. x

I also personally prefer ottomans as coffee tables. We have 2 leather square ottomans in front of our sofa (2 instead of 1 large one so the space still looks spacious) I have been thinking of adding nailheads to them. Hey, I wanna see a pic of your estate find! Wait until u see the armchair we scored at a recent estate sale .. I am still gushing over it!

Not to worry: will definitely be posting it as soon as I find it!
