I recently made a slipcover for our living room sofa using painter’s drop cloth. I am no pro sewer, as discussed here and here. But I needed something to replace the sloppy generic cover that was on, and there isn’t much out there by way of pre-made slipcovers for slope armed sofas.
We had originally purchased an off white sofa and chair for the living areas. But, when The Tot was en route, I had a nesting moment and thought I had better cover everything up quickly. I found some “one-size-fits-most” type of slipcover in a color that I thought would get the job done. And it did, but it wasn’t very pretty to look at and it was always moving around which often made it look unkempt (and drove me crazy in the process).
I decided that between my trusty litte IKEA sewing machine, Pinterest and my disdain for the existing slipcover, I could muster something up.
Pinterest didn’t disappoint. I used tutorials from She Endeavors and The Shabby Creek Cottage as guides. Up until now, my biggest challenge in sewing has been corners. But I even found a great tutorial for that at Purls and Pleats.
So without further ado…the results…

It is not perfect by any means. I still find myself adjusting here and there all the time. But I am so happy to have a light colored sofa again, not to mention a slipcover that actually fits. And the fact that I was able to cross this project off my list after so long? Priceless.
