I was so excited to get my copy of NY Magazine this week. After all, it is the ‘Home Design’ edition. It highlights many interesting spaces throughout NYC. Spaces like the one below…
The issue that Sylvia Heisel and husband Scott Taylor were having is very familiar to renters: how to personalize your space in a way that will not get you in trouble with the owner when it is time to move on. What is uncommon is the solution the couple found.
After contractors cracked a large window in their kitchen, the tenants of this downtown New York apartment got creative. Together with Doug Meyer, a friend who is also an interior designer, they spent a few days taping their kitchen and dining room, top to bottom.
Feeling inspired, the couple then took to the bedroom. Here, armed with squirt bottles, they covered the space in fabric and got to work. The result is more of a Jackson Pollock effect.
In the second bedroom, which is used as a study, Heisel covered the walls and ceiling with the black and white images of magazines. Between the mirrors and Knoll case piece, it almost feels subdued in comparison to the other rooms.
I’d love to know what you think!
