Last week we took a look at some Cape Town based furniture designers. Today I thought we could check out some lovely ladies out of Cape Town who are putting their creative energies into creating some wonderful objects.
sootcookie figurine & floral picnic plate | sootcookie ceramics
Sootcookie is a ceramic line started by Tanya Laing in 2009. The word sootcookie actually means sweet biscuit in Afrikaans. The Sootcookie animal line features the likes of bears and rabbits each with painstaking details (like the tiny zipper painted on the one above). Sweet indeed!
ceramic bowls | cath price
Cath Price’s ceramic creations are beautifully delicate. She adds unexpected creatures like rabbits and cows to mugs and bowls. The wares are meant to be used, but would look just as lovely sitting on display.
summer weeds tea towel & cushion covers | skinny laminx
Behind the whimsical and organic patterns of Skinny laMinx, is designer and illustrator Heather Moore. Her line of textiles feature screen prints of her cut illustrations. I love the clean motifs and the fact that Skinny laMinx was actually a blog before becoming the successful label that it is today!
milk bottle lamps & hatbox side table | recreate
Katie Thompson takes discarded everyday household objects and reimagines them into items with a new function. This upcycling has resulted in her line REcreate, which Thompson started in 2009. She says, “An object is no longer being used for its original purpose in life! That purpose has expired and I have recreated a beautiful ‘something else’.”

I really love the ceramic picnic set in the 1st photo, and the bunny bowl – that’d be perfect for displaying and storing bracelets and necklaces. xxx
