Hello & Happy Friday!
Since the desk is now facing a wall, I am looking to dress up that bit of vertical space that I face all the live long day.
I am slowly piecing together what will go up on said wall and recently added to this, a pair of IKEA MALMA mirrors in black. You know the ones: small, perfectly square. I wanted to throw off the perfect square with a circle and since I am on a gold tone kick…
I headed down to the craft store to pick up some gold leaf paper. But before I could even look for it, I came across Liquid Gilding from Martha Stewart: sold!
1. tape down stencil to mirror frame
2. paint in (wait an hour between coats)
3. remove stencil
4. fill in any spots
The neurotic in me was instantly trying to come up with ways to “fix” the fact that the liquid bled beneath the stencil. But, after a few minutes, I started liking the imperfections of the circle and have decided to live with them. Now I’m just debating whether to do the same with the second mirror or try something different…

It looks really cool! Leave the way it is, that’s my vote. It reminds me of those ring lights photographers use that you can sometimes see reflected in the models eyes. Do you know what I’m talking about? I’m probably not explaining it properly, haha. Nice DIY project!

I think it’s nice! I have never used that specific paint, but you would probably have to use a special stencil brush and dot it on if you don’t like the bleed.

Stencil brushes are usually flat and round as stencil paint is usually almost a paste like medium. This liquid is quite fluid- like water practically. I think a solution might be skipping the brush completely and going with a sponge tip intended for crafting.

I like the imperfection – it looks deliberate… I hope you share what you come up with for the next one!

Very cool! I have two of those mirrors from IKEA (black and red). I bought them for my Red/white/black living room but haven’t found a way to display them yet! This could be my ticket to showcasing them….thanks for the super idea! and thanks for visiting my blog……
