Remember Malma Mirror #1? I tried to lessen the ‘IKEA factor’ of the design with a gilded ring within the frame.
I knew I wanted to go with the gilding again for mirror #2, because this would tie the two mirrors together (oh, and also, I am obsessed with the whole liquid gilding thing). But, per your suggestion, I decided on a different pattern.
3 Simple Steps
1. draw guideline for pattern stop
2. use circle template to pencil in pattern
3. paint in pattern with thin brush
Basically, using this pillow spotted at Little White Whale (thanks for the inspiration Gloria!), I settled on a scallop pattern. It also gave me an idea for the pattern placement. By having it on the bottom part of the mirror, I give myself a Plan B. If the pattern didn’t turn out the way I wanted it, I could paint the entire bottom for a dipped look.

The scalloped pattern looks fantastic. I like the idea of the dipped one too, maybe you could make a third one 🙂 x

Love it! I would never have thought to use a stencil and would probably have freehanded it, thus mine would look terrible and yours looks awesome. Nicely done! Black and gold is such a classic combo.

I’m loving these projects of yours Santa! I have a trip to Ikea planned for next month so I will be sure to pick up a few of these Malma mirrors (and the sewing machine)!

It turned out GREAT Santa. I like how the design is elegantly on the bottom half only.

The stencil is such a great idea – and only doing the bottom of the frame is very unique. Good plan & great inspiration to us all… Thanks!
