During the Fall, I managed to get my hands on some large oak tree leaves. I wanted to do something with them and thought that by creating place settings for an upcoming dinner party, everyone would could enjoy them.
It would be a few days before I would be ready to use the leaves. So, I put them in the pages of a yellow pages book (because I’m not sure what else you can do with these in 2015) with a larger book above. This would flatten them and keep them in tact until I was ready to use them.
Tools
- large leaf/leaves- if your leaves are smaller, you can always just do an initial
- stencil- if you have calligraphy skills, you could always go that route
- a fine point marker to mark the placement of the stencil
- metallic paint- I used Martha Stewarts liquid guilding – not necessarily the best as it is very…liquidy. An Acrylic would be thicker but may still run so…
- a paper napkin for blotting excess paint
- small brush with a round tip or a small sponge to stencil with
- finally, I used a piece of cardboard under the leaf in case of any paint accidents
Et voilà! A simple project that adds a personal touch to your table setting. Happy weekend!
