Three cheers for Friday!
I’m heading into the weekend with a recap from a couple of weekends ago. I hit up my first estate sale with Nina of No.40 and I have to say, it was a success. Here’s what I nabbed…
1. My next upholstery project
I am very excited about this chair. The size is perfect for our small living room, and there happens to be an open spot just waiting for it. In addition to reupholstering, I see some paint in the future. What do you think: Keep as is? Or go all out with a paint job?
2. A pair of table lamps
I have to give my partner in crime Nina full credit on this one. She was the one looked up the name on the bottom of the lamp (Flavia del Pra) on her trusty phone, to find out that they might be worth a pretty penny. It was also Nina who suggested I ask to pay $15 per lamp. Because it was late and the last day of the sale, the seller (happily) accepted.
I spent the rest of the day trying to research Ms. del Pra and the lamps. Flavia del Pra, in case I’m not the only one who didn’t know, is renowned for her ceramics and textiles featuring a fun mix of colours and vintage patterns. The lamps, “Flora” and “Technicolor”, were hand made in England and are from the line del Pra had done for Anthropologie a few years ago. They originally sold for about $550 each (score!)
Below: Our finds waiting to be loaded into the car. Nina’s finds included the cool metal vintage cabinet on the right. Needless to say, this is probably the first of many estate sales for us.

Hurray for estate sales and Fridays! I would probably paint the chair white and use a patterned/bolder fabric on the seat. Oh and the lamps are the cutest. Great find! We should definitely go hunting for treasures again soon. Have a great weekend!

Nice hunt! Those lamps were quite the finding!
Makes me want to go find some flea market or second hand shop now… jealous 🙂

You guys found such COOL stuff. I’d love to go with you all sometime just to see how you have an eye for all this stuff

Wow, you guys each got some cool stuff!! I love the lamps and the chair you snagged. I would paint the chair white, but that’s just me. I like cane chairs the way they are usually, but the wood on that one seems too yellow-y, or maybe that’s the seat making it look that way. You guys really had some good luck! Next time I want to come with 🙂

I’ve always wanted to upholster furniture, but seems like such a huge project! I think I would paint the chair you find rather than keep it as is. Good luck with your projects!

amazing finds, especially at those prices! My vote would be to reupholster the chair and leave the wood as-is

I love your finds – the wood looks in pretty good condition, so I might leave it as is. I can’t wait to see the reupholstered version. Those lamps are a real coup – my favorite is the lamp with the yellow shade… too cute.

Oh, yay, how much fun! I love all your buys – the lamps are so cute, esp the pink based one; and the chair is gorgeous, I would definitely paint it. x
Leena says
Wohoo! the lamps were a great find! I like the carvings on the chair, that is why I wouldn’t paint it, I’d be afraid those would not be that visible after. But the wood has yellowed a bit so in that sence painting would be good.

You found such great things. I have a cane chair that had fabric on the back middle panel but I stripped it out and am going to can it some day. I think they look so much better with caning on the entire back.
Love those lamps. They are so cheerfully painted.

Santa I love the chair! I can’t wait to see how you’ll reupholster it! It’s going to look so exquisite in your home, and the lamps look great too!

We so love the chair!!! We think you should do something to make it look even prettier..
