This Pin from Casa Atelier won me over this morning. With the explosion of baby items that is taking over our apartment, I could wish for nothing more than seamless hidden storage like the one pictured above.
Believe me, I am trying hard to create storage – dresser as changing table, crib option with a drawer on the bottom…But there always seems to be a need for even more.
How do you create storage at home?
Erin says
I’m not perhaps the best to give advice, since I don’t have an influx of baby items to juggle, and my typical go-to advice (“Get rid of everything”) probably wouldn’t work in this situation 😉 Paring down really does help, but when you can’t get rid of things, benches/ottomans with storage, under-the-bed bins, and lots of baskets in closets to maximize storage and organization are my secret weapons!

I think it’s time to pair down the parent’s things…

Usually I have got just more storage pieces, but I think we could use something more bespoke. I have a magnificent grand plan about a big storage piece that would be integrated to out living room, but I do not know when I would have the time and energy to incorporate the idea. And I think I need a carpenter to make that idea come true.
homestilo says
Well, from my experience Leena, I seem to have the energy but definitely not the time nor the physical capabilities (yes, you must go with a carpenter on this one)

Ahh, we used to have under-the-stairs storage at our old house. So convenient!

it never ends santa, it never ends 😉 i am a (wannabe) storage junkie. i dream of a basement. and i am not talking a fully finished one with a theater room, i am talking just concrete floor and walls would suffice.
love this pin! i adore the brick wall and in the closet too, so chic!
homestilo says
Oh no Christine, say it ain’t so!

Ah the challenge of storage! I stuff things into every nook and cranny imaginable in all my closets and try to buy decorating pieces that offer storage as well.

I definitely can relate! We opted for a bed with storage underneath to maximize our bedroom size. Related to kids..each of our kids has a dresser and they share a closet (one of the dressers is in the closet to maximize their room size). And we store 3 shallow bins of toys under the kids bunk bed.
homestilo says
Julia it sounds like you have kid’s storage down to a science!

I love the photo … as all hidden storage makes me giddy (it’s like a secret agent .. ok, maybe not). The advice I give clients w/kids is to go VERTICAL. Create top storage.
homestilo says
That’s great advice Ada.

Oh my, a little Harry Potter bedroom under the stairs. My worst / best storage solution was stuffing my over-200-book-library into kitchen cupboards and dodging hardcovers as they would rain down on you while you were reaching for the spices – FAIL

What a great entranceway. I love the little hooks under the stairs. We have a set of old lockers that used to live at a golf club. They’re brilliant for our kids’ school bags, shoes, sports equipment. And they look cool too 🙂 x
homestilo says
I have seen your lockers on the blog- they really do look cool.

I love me some hidden storage! I can never have enough closets to stow away items I just can’t part with. I can’t imagine adding baby items to the mix!

Pure genius! As someone who lives in a very small house, I can always appreciate clever storage. My current method of creating storage is not ideal – basically stuff as much stuff into the cupboard as possible so that I can never find anything and it all falls out when I open the cupboard.
homestilo says
Meghan, hopefully in your next home storage will be plentiful!
Christina says
Our house doesn’t have a single closet, so we have gotten pretty creative. 🙂 After 3 years here though, I now love that we don’t have any because it forces me to keep things simple.
We have done a few little projects like removing the flooring from the stair landing and turning it into lidded storage.
