I came across this great article at the Style at Home magazine website: “20 Ways to Help Your Home Lose 50lbs”. The title peaked my interest immediately as I thought “Wait, does my home need to lose weight?!” But it is actually a great list that motivates you to use that New Year resolution momentum to get some Spring cleaning started.ย Here are some of the tips I will be making use of. But be sure to check out Style at Home for the complete list!
“Don’t cultivate a hospital waiting room aesthetic: recycle your old magazines. Scan design magazines first and rip out tear sheets for your project-inspiration book.“
Guilty as charged. The Mr works in Marketing. This means we have more magazines at home than either of us has the time or attention span for. As for my interior design magazine collection…better that you don’t ask.
“It should go without saying, but if that Christmas tree is still up, evict it ASAP.“
Our mini tree is down, but I have definitely been turning a blind eye to the rest of the holiday decorations.
“Clear dining room paperwork piles. The dining table may rock as an ersatz work-from-home HQ or homework station, but don’t let clutter from old projects linger. Recycle, shred, or file away.”
Oh, but it isn’t just the dining room. I have piles strewn throughout the home.
“Got coats or boots you didn’t wear at all this winter? Donate those in good, wearable condition, throw out the rest. (If we all got rid of clothing we didn’t wear but were holding onto “just in case,” the average home would probably need 50% less closet space!)“
And we need all the closet space we can get- don’t you agree?

Those are all good tips. My bf likes to stack papers and I constantly have to remind him to cull through his stuff ๐

Don’t worry, my Christmas tree is still in the garage because we missed the free pickup days. Ack!

Nice article reference! I think “i” need to lose more weight than my home ๐ We are pretty organized – my hubby nicknamed me the ‘Shrimp’ from the Nemo (remember the french shrimp that couldn’t resist dirt in the fishtank … thanks me with clutter (minus the dust bunnies, we have those)

My husband would love this post – he is the opposite of a hoarder. Lucky I like to be tidy and organised too, so we work together well, but my eldest daughter is a whole different story! xxx

It’s funny how many of us deal with the same issues at home.
Ada & Vic, we are jealous. Not to say The Mr is not organized, but he is ‘special’: doesn’t like clutter but is still a hoarder on some level.
