You may have seen this house already.ย But with Earth Day just a few days away, I felt like this was the perfect house to post about.
OK, to be honest, this is a bit of a cheat as it is a house that was actually designed as a show house. But the reasoning behind the design of the house was not to show how amazing a home can look when a group of talented designers get together. It was to show that sustainable doesn’t always mean minimalistic or contemporary. That it can actually look quite elegant.ย Coincidentally, this is also the reason why I am posting about it today.
The “greening” of this home began with the construction and architectural phase. The heating system includes radiant heating under the floor. The siding of the house is made of a cement board created with recycled post-industrial waste material.
So, naturally, the sustainability followed suit with the interiors.ย Natural fabrics using low VOC dyes and furniture pieces made with sustainable wood. All of this done in a soft and welcoming color palette.

Wow, that kitchen / breakfast area is so dramatic. And radiant flooring? I want that. Well, not where I am now. But in the future if I move somewhere cold ๐

I LOVE this place. I think I put a couple photos on my blog a while ago I liked it so much!
I like that all the materials are not harmful or less harmful to the environment but if I remember correctly the house is enormous. I can’t help but wonder if it negates all the benefits. It’s beautiful either way though. ๐
