I definitely do not get to feature homes in Latin American countries as much as I’d like. Not because there aren’t gorgeous homes in those countries. There just seems to be a scarcity of images to be found. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this beauty in Architectural Digest.
This is the home of interior designer Richard Mishaan. It is located in the old Spanish colonial port city of Cartagena. And because the area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, Mishaan had to follow strict rules when he undertook the two year renovation of the 16th century residence.
His approach to the project was to combine antiquity (like the 500 year old Brazilian wood beams in the living area) with modernity (art deco facade facing the pool area).

Whenever I see South and Central American homes with an atrium or interior courtyard I want to move down there, that would be so amazing. I really like the colors he uses in the interior but also the bright colors of the houses along the street. What a great way to brighten someone’s day.
