A reader has asked that I feature a (modern) Greek home. Here at homestilo, we aim to please (well, except for the suggestion of naming this post “The Bright Side of Greece”. Reader, we have to set some boundaries!)
This single family home is located in Dionysos, a residential suburb, located about 14 mi / 23 km from Athens. The town is surrounded by forests and mountains. It is also known for its marble mines.
The house was designed by Nikos Koukourakis & Associates. The firm set out to design an open space overlooking a flat garden, which allows one to see clear across to the surrounding pine trees. To enter the house, you must cross a bridge. Once inside, common areas like the living room and kitchen are on the main floor. Upstairs are the more private areas, like two bedrooms and a small living room with an office. The project is also considered “green”, with special attention paid to climate control and use of materials.

Wow, gorgeous and completely unexpected! When I think of Greece, I picture clusters of white wash and bright roofs. This seems very California modern, but not at all out of place.

You’re completely right Leslie. It might have something to do with the fact that this home is in more of a mountainous area and not by the water.
