Taking a break from Beach Living today, but staying in the UK where the Olympic games are still in full swing. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever watched this much Olympics, and don’t know what I’m going to do with myself when the games are over.
Now, did you know, that once the games are over, the Olympic Village will be turned into apartments? Currently there are 4-8 athletes in each apartment and there are a total of about 16,000 beds. After the games, they will be converted into apartments which will provide housing for at least 6,000 Londoners. Of these, 1,400 will be affordable housing units and about another 1,400 will be for profit.
Also located in the East London section, is the home we are looking at today. It is a Victorian that has been remodeled into an open floor plan layout. For the interiors, the owners have chosen a soft colour palette influenced by Scandinavian design.

I love the serene look to the rooms, esp important when we have a crazy day of Olympic proportions.

That’s a peaceful oasis of a home – I really like the London finds you’re coming up with. It’s making me want to MOVE (and forgetting that I wouldn’t be able to afford anything close to that!)

So much light in this space! Love it.

The kitchen is the best, really scandinavian, and I love it. I don’t know if it’s somesort of habit to convert the olympic village into apartments, at least when Finland had the Olympics in um… 1952 they did turn the other Olympic village into student apartments for the techican university students and the other is now a very popular and wanted place to buy an apartment from. Apparently they were well built and are open and light and have high ceilings.

I have some family that lives outside of London and I’m always so surprised that their houses (and all typical English homes) are so boxed off room by room. They’re not big on open-plan living over there, so this is a nice refreshing change! Love all the elements in that home, it really does mix the best English and Scandinavian bits together.
Random question: what font do you use for the part of the round-up that says “London Scandinavian retreat”? Love it! I promise to steal it 😉

The font is called Learning Curve. You can “steal” it for free over at Da Font. Enjoy!

They’ve used such a beautiful soft colour palette, it’s lovely. x

Abundant natural light and open plan living is very rare in Victorian homes so they obviously put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this! I particularly love the beautiful outside area!
