The latest issue of Lonny features the Los Angeles home of designer Ruthie Sommers. Although originally in a state of disrepair (her neighbors wanted to see the building torn down!), she took on the fixer-upper with visions of a light and airy home.
Her style involves a mix of formal and casual with a dose of practicality. Antique pieces blend with more laid back ones. Keeping her children and pets in mind, she set out to design a liveable home where “…nothing could be too delicate”.
A vintage Lily Pulitzer bed and and a chandelier original to the home (inset) are some of the details found in a little girl’s room.
In the dining room, Sommers avoided “messy chairs” and opted for a window seat and bench instead.

Wow this is a gorgeous home – I can’t believe her neighbors wanted to tear it down! I wonder how much it cost to renovate everything though…:)

LOVE the first room! Although I am not a HUGE checkerboard fan, it just looks right for that room and the natural light paired with beautiful peach curtains and door makes everything fit.

Well, I have done some searching. But, alas, no I was unable to find “before” images. Should I ever find any though, will definitely post.

I can’t even imagine how this home looked when it was in a state of despair – it’s absolutely beautiful now! I love the outdoor dining area.
