When the current owners bought this home, it hadn’t received much TLC by way of design in over 30 years. They stripped all sorts of layers from top to bottom (wallpapered ceilings, anyone?) and saved period details wherever possible. They then added personal touches in every room, in an attempt to achieve a “modern tropical” effect.
Above: Muted walls take a backseat to the saturated tones of the accessories in the living room. Small touches like pineapple sconces and flamingo statuettes, add some tropical flair.
Below: A bright wall, colorful chairs and drapes with a palm motif warm up the colder Winters.

Modern tropical is n’t my cup of tea but they did a great job with the decor!

They definitely took some risks in the color department, but nothing that couldn’t easily be switched out (err…with the exception of the wall covering)

homestilo says
Gotcha with the greyhound huh?
Well here is a small figurine that wouldn’t take up as much real estate …

I wouldn’t say modern tropical is a style I would seek but I do like a lot of the design here and the colors and patterns. 🙂
