Another Open House New York tour to share with you today. This time, of an NYC apartment located in the 70 Pine Street building.
About the Building
At the time of it’s completion, in 1932, this 67-story building was the third tallest in NYC. These days, it is still the 8th tallest. Art Deco details abound in this landmark building designed by architectural firms Clinton & Russel and Holton & George. It is located in the financial district and has had many lives. ( Originally it served as the headquarters for The Cities Service Company (Citgo) and later for AIG. )
These days, the building is part hotel and part residential units.
During OHNY, we were able to visit a one bedroom apartment.
above: the building facade includes a carving of the building itself | an original elevator shaft now houses the mail room
above and below: enter the apartment through the kitchen into an open concept area that combines the kitchen with the living room
below: bedroom with a view and a wall of storage
It may be tough to live with your living room right in the kitchen. But this is the kind of sacrifice folks make everyday to be able to get a piece of Big Apple living.

I live downtown and have walked past this building numerous times. It’s crazy to think that it used to be among the tallest in NYC. This apartment is definitely cozy but at least it’s cute.
