My iris’ are finally in full bloom and the peony I planted from my mother’s yard is hanging on to dear life and that is all I could ask for right now. On occasion, we do bring out a small bistro set and enjoy meals and sunsets out there. Our own little version of “outdoor living”.
I apologize for not having a picture of my own balcony for this post. Between a serious case of the sniffles and a gloomy week, I don’t think I could have turned out a decent image. But, here is a look at a couple of ways of making the balcony a “happy place” otherwise.
1. Use a wood tile or an indoor/outdoor rug to soften the underfoot and the entire area.
platta decking tiles | ikea $35/pack of 9
sunbrella multi stripe outdoor pillow | pottery barn $39.50
bromo deck chair | ikea $60
2. If you are low on space for plants, use the vertical real estate of a rail for a flower box.
glenn stripe midback cushion | target $19
rephorm plant container | connox 55€
border indoor/outdoor rug | pottery barn $79 (3’x5′)

Such lovely balconies. You’ve inspired me to finally do something about our poor, neglected top floor balcony! Thank you 🙂

I think I want to add MORE .. like colorful pillows. Hmmm, maybe, esp now that u have inspired me w/these pics.

We are lucky enough to have a big deck, patio and yard – kind of crucial when you live with three small children, 2 cats, a large dog, and an ‘outdoors’ husband! But I’m always fascinated with how fabulous people make their tiny balconies. The Scandinavians are great at it, with their apartment living, their balconies always look so cosy and inviting. xxx

I love outdoor rooms. Those lights on the railing on the first picture are amazing, I’d like to see them on.

A balcony {even a tiny one} or porch is on my list of things I want in my next apartment.
I hope you feel better and have a great holiday weekend! Hopefully the weather will cooperate and clear up!
