I only recently learned that Lilly Pulitzer had passed away. It made me realize that other than the bright colours, I really knew nothing about the socialite turned designer. I have to say I was amused to find out that Mrs. Pulitzer had designed the vivid pattern shift dresses she was first known for, as a way to camouflage juice stains from the juice bar she owned and ran.
Eventually the dresses were more sought out than the juices, and Lilly Pulitzer as a designer evolved into something quite big. The name is synonymous with bright floral prints. Prints that conjure thoughts of a warm day in Palm Beach (mint julep in hand of course).
Best of all, those prints had been extended from closet to home in recent years.

Haha what a funny story behind the pattern. Love the simple shape of that dress.

My sister-in-law first introduced me to Lilly Pulitzer, it was a staple of her wardrobe from all her summers on Martha’s Vineyard. The colors are too bright for my taste (read: not black or gray) but I love the story behind it! I never knew that she had a juice bar, too funny.

What a great story! I didn’t know that either. I love her textiles, like Erin, I am not big into wearing prints – it clashes with my freckles in my case 😉 But I would seriously give my bathroom a makeover to go with those towels! I really like that tunic too.

Oh wow, I had no idea the story behind the patterns! Very interesting…her clothes remind me so much of my time in South Florida.

That is a great story. I wouldn’t actually wear the clothes myself but I like the fabric patterns and the home collection.

Love her patterns and colors, so uplifting! Thanks for your comment…I found a great person to rent my cottage here and I’m still getting requests on Craig’s List. Whew! Moving this weekend and will be making another move hopefully in July…;-)

I am shamed to admit that I didn’t know much about her either but the lady clearly had some serious talent! That mug would look fantastic on my desk at work!

I was wrapt when I discovered Lilly Pulitzer a couple of years ago. With her gorgeous use of colour and pattern I am a big fan. I had heard the story about the juice stains before, but didn’t realise that Lilly has passed away 🙁 She has left a fantastic legacy behind. x
