Before you ask, it isn’t that things have gotten so bad around here that I have to start of the week with libation as motivation.
My mind is actually on what a great Summer it’s been, even up to this weekend: a trip to the beach on Saturday and a lovely soiree yesterday at Nina’s from No. 40.
And it’s Nina’s party that inspired my post today. The thought of entertaining automatically leads to cocktails and the bar (…is that bad? Wait. Don’t answer that.) And while I would love the set up pictured above, apartment living can, and usually does, mean coming up with space saving tricks. So today, some space saving tricks for the bar.
Why not go up? Floating shelves on the wall will save floor space and give you a fabulous focal point.
If you have the surface availability, a simple solution could be adding a tray atop a piece of furniture. It serves it’s purpose (no pun intended) and keeps the bar contained.
This combination of the bar cart and tray would make for a great space saver in a corner.
Perhaps my favorite of all the options- you can dedicate one or two shelves of an existing bookcase to holding your bar.
Of course, if size is all too tricky, you can always take to a “do it yourself” bar like Nancy of Life Designed, for a customized solution.

I like the bookcase option but that means clearing books away – hrrmm.. maybe I just need more bookcases. For alcohol. Yes that’s how I’ll justify it

As you know, I’m not much of a reader. That’s why this option is perfect for me π

Right now I have the tray option, but I went with a bright yellow lacquer tray from West Elm. I definitely like the DIY option and the bookshelf option. I’m too attached to my gin to risk hanging it from the wall, haha, but it does look neat that way!

I definitely would love to get a bar cart for my next place. There’s so retro and yet so modern at the same time.

Our bar could never fit on a shelf or on a tray. Also I don’t like to keep alcohol out in the open. But when we do have parties I’d like to have somesort of cart where to keep the bottles and glasses. I like the look of the last one.

Love the vertical bar idea – perfect for apartment living!

I think ideally, I’d have something like the dresser and linens could be stored below. In reality, I put mine in an x wine storage thing even though I can’t drink most wines. Someday when space isn’t at a premium, I’d love to do something more. π

I love bar carts, that first one is divine. They also work really well as side tables if you don’t want to have alcohol in easy reach (parents of littlies). I like the tray version as well, and I’m going to set one up with one of the Cush & Nooks’ bone inlay trays π x

Oooh, one of those gorgeous trays would be perfect.

A bar is possibly the most important little section of the home in my eyes π I absolutely love some of these – especially the last one – so fab! Great post! x
