Hello there darlings. I’ve missed you and my time online. India was amazing and I hope to have something to show you by the end of the week (as usual, way too many pictures taken).
Part of the “welcome home” list of things to do, is going through the mail that came in while you were out gallivanting. Much like the out of control magazine pile, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wish I could I could just take a match to it…It is, after all, mostly junk mail.Β I do have keep a wall file near the desk, but things don’t go in there until after they’ve been sorted.
I need to find a solution that will keep the mail off my kitchen counter while it waits to be sorted…And since fire is not an option, here are some alternatives to consider.
1 Wall Mounted Solutions
I like that these put the walls to work and let you take the mail storage vertical
2 Counter Top Solutions
While these would help reign things in, I can’t help but think that with the one on the left, I would still end up with an untidy mess. As for the pitcher, I think that with a wide enough mouth this could really work…of course, it would have to be made of a durable material such as melamine (otherwise one could end up with a pretty ceramic jigsaw puzzle to glue together)
3 Floor Solutions
This may be the best solution in our home since it would allow us to just dump mail as we walk in and let it pile up until we are ready to sort it all out
How do you keep mail under control in your home?

Welcome back!! You and Boyfriend made it back safely and in one piece from your respective India trips, thankfully. He took a grand total of 0 pictures, the goof, so I can’t wait to see yours! As far as mail, I thankfully only have to deal with 4 or so junk credit card offers a week, and a couple of flyers for gym memberships (maybe they’re trying to tell me something??). We have 3 magazine subscriptions. We have it pretty easy when it comes to not having to deal with an overflowing mailbox! I have been eyeing this, though. http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=24709776&parentid=A_DECORATE_STORAGE

That’s actually a very good looking option Erin. Now I guess I better start editing those pictures!

Welcome back! We normally bring in the mail and sort it on the dining room table – where it all sits (at least the mail that doesn’t need immediate attention) until I can’t stand it anymore – NOT GOOD. The pitcher idea is unique – I would never have thought of it! The floor solution would be my pick (and I just may start to do it) I have an unused crochet basket that I just finished that would do the trick. Thanks for the idea!

Swap the dining table for the kitchen counter and it sounds like we have the same situations going on…

I just adore that wood slotted one, Santa. It’s gorgeous. Welcome back! Can’t wait to hear all about your travels. Cheers!

Welcome home Santa, I look forward to seeing your India photos. Love the 1st wall mounted option – so cute. I have a large colourful rattan bag slung over a door handle that holds all the unsightly paper work that I need to attend to. Works a treat, and looks great. x

welcome back! i can’t wait to see the photos, it’s still holding tight to the grey skies here so i will happily welcome seeing some color : )
i’d love the believe that i could be so organized to keep my mail tidy with any of the wall or table top solutions but reality tells me i would definitely have to go with a floor one too! i have a basket in my cupboard that i pile my mail into. truthfully i’d be mortified if anyone saw it! it’s not good.

Welcome back, looking forward to photos of your trip. Thanks for the post because I tend to just plop my mail on our bar counter, need to organize better.

Welcome back! Can’t wait to hear all about India! The mail situation at home drives me a bit nuts too, made worse by the fact that we have no entrance hall. Luckily most of the mail is junk so it just goes straight in the bin but the bills are usually stacked on the bookcase and then forgotten about until the ‘red’ letters come. I am loving that wire basket that can be put on the floor.

Welcome back! We don’t get that much mail and I try to sort it right when I take it out of the mailbox but sometimes it piles up in a basket on our kitchen island. I really like the wire basket and would opt for something like that, easy solution for storing mail.

Welcome back!
I’ve understood you could sign up for a ‘do-not-send-me-junk-mail’ lists. In Finland we just add a sign ‘no advertisements’ to the post box and then no advertisements come.
We have this slot system, I have one slot, my boyfriend has one, we have one together and then there is a slot for bills that need to be payed. When we open a letter we put the content to the appropriate slot. Magazines only tend to pile on top of the entry drawer.

Welcome back! I hope you had a great trip!
I have to say that I like the look of the floor options but they seem very dangerous and enabling to me. π I have a mail sorter that I don’t use much anymore. Instead, I have a system where I don’t let any junk mail hit a surface before it’s shredded or in the recycle bin. Catalogs replace the older ones {decorating catalogs anyway} in my magazine racks filed by type and bills go next to the computer.
Now if only they had an unread magazine holder that holds my 2 foot stack, I’d be all set!!

Welcome back, Santa! I hope your trip was invigorating and inspiring.
Ha, I hear you on needing to get the mail organized. (Our pile was pretty outrageous when we returned home from Oahu.) Even before I scrolled down to see your options, I was thinking of a basket for you. So, option #3 gets my vote. The ones you selected are so nice, too.
