Well, the estate sale was a bust. But fellow blogger Nina and I ended up at IKEA where I finally bought the grommet panels I have been considering for the second bedroom for months now.Β I would really like to add a band in a along the bottom (yes, it will probably be a few more months before I can commit to a fabric to use as the band).
But, in the meantime I have found some examples of the classic banded drape to serve as inspiration.
I think this will be a good (and somewhat simple) test of my newly learned sewing skills. What do you think?

Oh yes this should be easy for you. I like the first picture, the colours are nice. Give yourself a deadline here on the blog and you will get it done quicker π

Thank you for the vote of confidence Leena!

This looks like a fun DIY project. I’d even go so far as to suggest no-sew iron-on hem tape, to make your life even easier. Sorry the estate sale was a bust! But a weekend trip to IKEA is never a bad thing, either π
homestilo says
Thanks for the idea Erin- since I am all about making life easier, will definitely take it into consideration.

I’m a fan of banded drapes – and planning to add a band to the hall bath shower curtain, it shrunk and it needs a little a ‘little’ help. I agree, give yourself a deadline & commit to it on your blog…a great idea.

I really love this look. My fav is the top one – they’d be perfect for my bedroom. Good luck with your sewing x

I hope you and Nina didn’t eat the meatballs at IKEA this weekend! Eeps! On a more serious note, I actually thought seriously about window dressings this weekend which means I’m progressing in my “design brain” development – thanks to you!
homestilo says
Ha! No meatballs- we stuck to mack & cheese!
Nina says
Love the colors in the first picture. If you want we can motivate each other to finish our drapes. Mine are already waiting to be hemmed and hung for almost year π
@rooth, we both didn’t eat any meatballs π
homestilo says
Then you are ahead of me Nina: I still have to put up the rod and cut the drapes to the right length. But, let’s get to motivating!

that looks like a great project. definitely an easy one, except as you say to pick out the fabric. why is it always so much more difficult finding things for your own home. i can go into anyone else’s house and be certain of what colors/textiles/etc. would look great, but in my house, i torture myself for months with such decisions!
homestilo says
Christine, this is EXACTLY my situation. In anyone else’s home, the solutions seem obvious. In my own home, I have definite commitment issues.

I do like the look of a banded drape. I hope you find the time to tackle that project. I would love to see the outcome. Maybe by announcing the goal here, we can act as a gentle push. π

What is the standard size of the band? I have drapes in my living room I have considered putting a band on.
Just not sure what size would look most classic.
Thank you for input.
