Sometimes, and on a whim, I like to create a moodboard on Polyvore and enter a contest. It isn’t so much about winning any contest as it is about just being creative with an assigned theme. Isn’t that what an interior designer does after all? And, the way I see it, if adult coloring books can be a thing, so can online collages.
Most recently, there was one where the theme was “decorating with chalkboard”. With the chalkboard being such a trendy thing at the moment, I liked the idea of dressing it up with an antique and ornate frame. I felt this would work well in a dining area where there was a marriage of things classic and modern.
When you decide on a motif for a room, you can also use colors to convey your idea. Here I did that by using a contemporary black and white palette, together with (the more traditional) brass for accents.
