Hard to believe it’s already been 3 months since our whirlwind trip to India earlier this year. Like most trips, I take a ton of images, promise to post some of them, and then never quite get around to it.
Today I’m sharing some views of Mumbai. As the Mr.’s business meetings took place here, it’s where we spent the bulk of time while in India. If I had to describe this city, I would say it was vibrant with a touch of nostalgia. There is an exciting hustle and bustle of people and cars set against the backdrop of a mix of modern architecture and traditional colonial English structures.
A post that has been long time coming, but hey, better late than never no? Happy Weekend all!
1| Hard at work in the Dhobi Ghat– the world’s largest open air laundry where laundrymen (“dhobis”) wash items for as little as $1USD a piece
2| On our last day in the city, we went to a posh theater to watch a Bollywood movie (“Race 2”) and it was kind of awesome. But on the day in image 2 above, we actually got to see a film being shot
3| Inside a home where Mahatma Gandhi once lived- now open to visitors as a museum
4| On a visit to the Victoria Terminus (now the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus) we got to step inside one of the stationed trains. This one happened to be a ‘women only’ train
5| As cows are sacred in India, they can pretty much lounge wherever they please…even in the middle of a busy city street
6| One night we also braved a ride on a tuk tuk. Round-the-clock morning sickness and all, that was one of the most fun experiences of the trip for me (maybe because I got to pretend to be a local for a few minutes)

That cow picture is so funny. Thank you for posting these! Better late than never 🙂 You are a brave soul for riding in that tuk tuk! Especially when newly pregnant! Do you think you’d go back with him if he had to travel back for work? I’ve never been to India, but with the rate Jeff goes I might as well travel along at some point, right? xoxo

I would go back if the trip included other parts of India – like Marlen’s trip through the desert (amazing). All I can tell you is 1) it is an experience you wouldn’t soon forget 2)It won’t be anything like Paris. But, if given the chance, you should definitely join Jeff on one of his trips.

Your trip must have been quite the experience. I’d love to ride a tuc tuc.
There is something really beautiful about long laundry lines filled with white clothing.

This is great; I love seeing glimpses of your India trip. India does seem like a vibrant city. The architecture alone would be interesting to see in real life, along with experiencing the culture. I can’t imagine being in a foreign city while dealing with morning sickness. I guess now we know you survived it. 😉

Believe it or not Theresa, my morning sickness didn’t act up until the last day of the trip. I think the spicy food must have really agreed with me 😉

Great photos, thanks for sharing Santa. Those floors at Ghandi’s old home are beautiful. x

I was wondering when we would get to see your fab India pics! I had to blink a couple of times when I saw the picture of the empty train because in my mind, NOTHING is ever empty in India!

It seems like you are on my posting schedule – I find year old photos and use them too. 🙂 India seems like a chaotic but fun place to visit and I love seeing your photos, now and in another 3 months when you find more. I’m sorry about the motion sickness during your trip but if you can handle it then, you can handle it very well!
