The annual orchid show is currently on display at the New York Botanical Garden. Beautiful blooms of all colors, shapes and sizes.
This year, the garden has enlisted the talented Patrick Blanc who’s specialty is the living wall vertical garden.
Some tips/info I picked up at this event:
- There are over 30,000 species of orchids all over the world
- Did you know vanilla beans come from an orchid?? (I truly had no idea)
- Repotting an orchid is like ‘minor surgery’ so, for the first two weeks, you should: 1. keep in low light & 2. do not fertilize
The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden will be running through April 22.

How beautiful, I love orchids. I feel bad as I’ve re-potted quite a few orchids in my time and perhaps i didn’t give the plants quite the loving care they needed! 🙁
I love orchids, they are so beautiful! I had one that would bloom from December to February but then my cat ate the flowers {I caught her with one hanging out of her mouth} and then the leaves. The replacement I got hasn’t been nearly as happy.

@Ada- I was surprised by how quick the drive us from our place as well (about 20 minutes)
@Niki- as long as they survived…I find that they don’t really need that much attention

Ahh orchids are my absolute favorite flowers! Didn’t know the show was in NYC. I think I’ll have to go now. 🙂
