Roman shades are a great way to add privacy and shield a room from the sun without committing to full-on curtain panels. The question is, which style to choose…
- inverted seams
- creates precise folds when raised
- best in solid colours
- soft billowing swags
- create small side wings when raised
- less structured
- like the classic minus seams
- folds neatly when raised
- better with patterns/prints than the classic roman shade
- soft swag
- creates a curve along the bottom when raised
- plays well with traditional and more contemporary settings
- inverted pleats
- creates billowing poufs along the bottom when raised
- plays well with traditional settings, but makes for an unexpected element in more contemporary ones

So appropriate. I have been thinking real hard what style of curtains to have in the office. I have traditionally liked the classic or flat roman blind the best. But the last one is funky! I love it, eventhough it’s so not my style.

I love roman shades! You will see when you come over 😉 I am not into the poufy looking versions, instead I like the look of classic, flat and relaxed roman shades.

The relaxed roman shade is probably my favourite but that may be because I like the rest of the room as well

I like the standard roman shades I think, but I had the bubble roman shades in my bedroom growing up. My mom made them out of extra flat sheets so they would match my bedsheets! Pretty cool now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t think I’m going to be anywhere near that handy when I have kids!

My mom is in the drapery business, and had to make the balloon roman shade once. She said it was tough.

Love them. We have the flat roman shade in our daughter’s room. My friend made it for us, which blows me away, because, as a non-sewer, they seem impossibly hard to make. x

I’m such a fan of roman shades – and have made versions of flat or relaxed – they are great. Nice post.

My favorite will always be the classic – inverted so it lays flat.

I came across so many DIY project for Roman shades while writing this post. Had me thinking they must be a breeze to make. But now that I read some of your comments…maybe we’ll just leave these to the professionals.
