If you follow me on Instagram, you may already know that one of the things we did this Summer was spend the month of August in Spain. In the coming weeks, I plan to share some of that trip with you- starting today.
The majority of the time, we spent in Villavieja de Yeltes. This is a small Spanish village where my in-laws were born and still keep a home. It is technically part of the province of Salamanca, which is about 80km away.
This sleepy town only has about 900 residents throughout the year. But, once a year, during the Ferias, the town is flooded with people. And those people bring with them ambiance and renewed energy. Many are returning to their childhood and/or Summer homes here. Within days, the population rises to about 3000.
The highlights for me included going for walks up and down the winding streets and enjoying the architecture (many times while my father-in-law would give me a full rundown of its inhabitants!). I also loved having our little one running around in the garden (note to self: must do a google search for “eating massive amounts of unwashed strawberries, straight from the vine”).

How fun to learn more about a small town like this since we usually just hear about the major cities in Spain. It must’ve been nice to tour around with your FIL. My August was fun but I didn’t leave NYC. Happy October Santa!
It was nice. Although, I’ll admit, the no internet was a bit jarring at times- I learned just how dependent I am on technology for my day-to-day living.
And August in the city can be oh so much fun as well!
