Hello and Happy Monday. I hope you all had a good weekend.
I finally put up hardware and grommet panels in the guest room/home office. Selecting what to put up was the easiest part. But I did have other issues to contend with…
Off-Centered Window
The window is off centered. But rather than try to hide by running a rod along the entire wall, I tried making it as even as possible by simply making sure that the rod extended the same distance on either end.
Height & Hem
Another decision I made was with the hem. These IKEA Merete panels come at 98″ long. I decided to place the curtain rod half way between window frame and the ceiling line. Also, rather than using the hemming tape that came with the panels, I decided to leave them at a break, on the floor.
While I have not given up on my banded drape project. I thought I’d better get things started by putting up the hardware and getting the curtain panels up in their ‘before’ state. So actually, this post is more of a “before” and “during”. But, just as I suspected, having the panels up (band or not), has already made a difference in how much more finished the room looks.

It looks great! Small difference like that really change the room. I’ve been waiting to hang curtains in our living room (one window, thankfully centered, but much smaller than yours) and I just know it’s going to pull the whole space together once I get around to it, haha.

Wow there really is a huge difference. Really nice, I already like this plain white look, but if you do make the banded drape I’m sure it will look excellent.

looks great, i really love the simple white curtains, especially with it being a room that has more than one purpose (i also like my curtains to go to graze ground). love those curtain rods, those aren’t from ikea are they?

Thanks Christine. The rods are actually Umbra. I got them at Macy’s, but they are also available via Amazon.

They make such a huge difference and I bet they cut down on your sight line to the neighbor. 🙂

Whoops wrong response to the wrong person {second part of my comment, I still do think they make a huge difference}. I can’t even blame it on being early in the morning!

No Worries Jeanine. I actually put them up with the idea of making the room darker as well for those sleeping in it. When I put the panels up I realized they don’t seem to do much by way of that. But recent guests found the room at night to be quite dark all the same, so I may skip the part where I was thinking about lining them.

I have the grommet drapes in natural & have loved them for years – versatile and easy to care for. I’ve washed them several times – they come out amazing. Banded or plain they certainly make a difference!

Nice! The window definitely looks more finished now. Getting started is usually half the battle so good for you for putting the panels up 🙂

Looks great, I love white curtains – also, if you want my orange dresser I need to move stuff out of my storage unit!

Well done, they look fantastic. I love banded curtains, so I look forward to seeing step 2. x

The new drapes make a huge difference! I really like how they graze the floor. Your post is making me want to put mine up as well. Need to hem mine though. Maybe I’ll find time this weekend…
