Trompe l’oeil is French for “deceive the eye”. It is an art technique used to create optical illusions. Although it is usually found in paintings and murals, check out these other unexpected places where trompe l’oeil is turning up.

The Bauke Knottnerus curtain serves as a room divider and tricks the eye into thinking the space is much bigger than it actually is.
One makes you think you are wrapped in a big sweater. The other makes it look like you forgot to put away your button down shirt. Dutch company Snurk produces these fun cotton duvets. The third one here, with a cardboard box effect, has the tag line “Sleep on the street so a homeless youngster doesn’t have to.” (A portion of the sales proceeds go to help homeless youth in different parts of Europe.)
