I found this really cool idea for enhancing a paper lanternĀ in the Spanish magazine Casa Diez. The instructions are in Spanish- but not to worry my dears, I am translating it all here for you!
Materials
- lantern
- veneer strips
- lighting cord set & bulb
- scissors
- pencil
- single whole punch
- craft cord
- craft needle
Steps
- measure distance between the ends of the lantern (not too taut) with the veneer strip and mark with a pencil
- cut first strip and then the rest ofĀ the strips using the first strip as a guide (amount of strips used will depend on how big your lantern is)
- punch a single whole at each end of the strips (try to keep these aligned!)
- beginning with top end of lamp, carefully insert needle with cord from the outside in and tie a knot leaving needle ready for next step
- place another strip next to the first and repeat the step above tying one veneer strip to the next by looping cord through previous stitch
- repeat steps 5 & 6 all the way around the top and then for the bottom of the lamp (the end result should resemble a blanket stitch)
- place the electrical cord set with bulb through the lamp
- enjoy your new and improved lighting!
